Editorial policy
Our independence, sourcing standards, update cadence and corrections policy — including what this site cannot do.
Independence
- No payment for placement. No brand, retailer or PR agency can buy a position on this site, a mention, or a score.
- No pre-publication review. No manufacturer sees a page before it is published, and nobody outside this site has input into what it says.
- No sponsored content. There is none on this site and if that ever changes it will be labeled as such on the page itself, not just in a policy.
- No gifted products, because there are no products — we do not have review samples, which is both a limitation and, on this point, a simplification.
- Commission does not affect ranking. Set out in detail, with examples from the site, on the affiliate disclosure page.
Sourcing standards
Every factual claim on this site has to come from somewhere nameable. In practice that means five categories, each with its own standard.
| Claim | Required source | How it appears |
|---|---|---|
| Film or paper price, and cost per shot | A live retail listing, with the date checked | Linked in the table, with the date stated |
| Product specification | The manufacturer's own specification page | Linked in the Sources block |
| Whether a product is currently sold | The manufacturer's current-range page | A visible last-checked date |
| Picture quality or handling judgment | A published review by an outlet that tests | Attributed by name in the text |
| Discontinuation | Manufacturer or retailer evidence | Stated, not inferred from absence |
The fourth row is the one that governs most of the writing here. We do not test hardware, so any judgment about how a camera feels or how its photographs look is somebody else's and is credited to them — Engadget, TechRadar and Digital Camera World are the three cited most often, and they are named in the text rather than buried in a footnote.
Where we cannot find a source, we say so rather than estimating. There are several of those gaps on the site: Polaroid does not publish a shots-per-charge figure for the Now Generation 3, Canon does not publish one for the SELPHY QX20, and we could not fetch a verified US price for HP's own ZINK paper. Each of those is stated on the page where it matters.
What we will not publish
- Invented prices. Every figure is fetched and dated, or it does not appear.
- Invented reviews or testimonials. There are none on this site, because we have no reader reviews to quote.
- Borrowed star ratings. Amazon's rating is Amazon's and will not be presented as our assessment.
- First-hand use claims. No "in our testing", no "when I shot with this". We have not handled these products.
- Invented credentials. The author bio contains only what is true, which is why it is short.
- Manufactured urgency. No sale claims, no countdowns, no stock warnings. We have no live price or stock data, so all of those would be fabricated.
- Month-stamped titles. Year only. Month-stamping is a spam fingerprint in this particular category and we will not imitate it.
- Recommendations for discontinued hardware. The specific failure we built the currency process to avoid.
Update cadence
- Quarterly: every product page. Is it still sold, is the specification still correct, has a successor appeared, is the cost per shot still roughly right.
- Quarterly: every cost figure. Re-fetched from a live listing and re-dated. The current check date across the site is October 13, 2026.
- Immediately: anything reported as wrong. A reader correction jumps the queue.
- On announcement: superseded products. When a manufacturer replaces a model, the old one is demoted or removed rather than left in place.
- Visible on the page. Every product page carries a last-checked date under the headline — currently October 2026 — so you can judge for yourself how current it is.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we correct the page in place and add a dated note saying what changed. We do not edit silently and we do not delete the page.
That matters more than it sounds. A site that quietly rewrites its mistakes cannot be caught being wrong, and a site that cannot be caught being wrong has no way to earn trust when it is right. The dated note is the mechanism.
- Tell us: email contact@shakeandprint.com with a link to the page.
- We check it against the manufacturer's page or a live listing, rather than taking either side on trust.
- We correct the page and add a note at the point of the change saying what it was and when it changed.
- If the error changed a recommendation, the recommendation changes too. A corrected fact with an unchanged conclusion is not a correction.
Our limits, stated plainly
An editorial policy that only lists strengths is a marketing page. Here is what this site cannot do.
- We cannot tell you how a camera feels in the hand. We have not held one. Where that judgment is needed, we quote somebody who has.
- We cannot show you sample photographs. There are none, and we will not use stock images in a way that implies otherwise.
- We cannot give you today's price. No live price feed yet — see the affiliate disclosure for why, and what changes when that is in place.
- We cannot settle picture-quality disagreements between testers. When published reviews conflict, we say so rather than averaging them into a false consensus.
- Our product images are stock photographs of the product type, not the specific model. They are labeled accordingly in their alt text and never captioned as if they were the reviewed product.
Who is responsible
Shake & Print is published by Selena Hann. Selena H. is the owner and editor, and is responsible for everything on the site. There is no other editorial staff, which is worth knowing: one person's judgment is behind every page here.
Questions people ask
Does Shake & Print accept payment for reviews or placement?
No. No brand, retailer or agency can buy a position, a mention or a score, and no manufacturer sees a page before it is published. The site is funded entirely by affiliate commission, which does not affect rankings.
How often do you update your pages?
Every product page and every cost figure is re-checked quarterly, and anything a reader reports as wrong is corrected immediately. Each page shows a visible last-checked date under the headline — currently October 2026.
What do you do when you get something wrong?
We correct the page in place and add a dated note saying what changed, rather than editing silently or deleting it. If the error changed a recommendation, the recommendation changes too. Email contact@shakeandprint.com with a link to the page.
Where do your product specifications come from?
The manufacturer's own specification page, linked in the Sources block on each page. Judgments about picture quality or handling come from published reviews by outlets that test hardware, and are attributed to them by name in the text.
Why are there no testimonials on this site?
Because we have no reader reviews to quote. A page with no testimonials is better than a page with invented ones, so the section simply does not exist.
Who is responsible for the content?
Selena H., the owner and editor. The site is published by Selena Hann, and there is no other editorial staff — one person's judgment is behind every page.
