Why the wide format matters
An instax mini print is 2.4 x 1.8 inches. Put five people in it and you have five very small faces. A WIDE print is 3.9 x 2.4 inches — about 2.2 times the area — and five people in it is a photograph.
There is a second consequence that matters just as much for events: there is room to write. In a guest book, a WIDE print leaves usable space beside the photograph for a message. An instax mini print leaves room for a signature. That is the difference between a book people write in and a book people sign.

What it costs to run
instax WIDE film was $21.99 for a 20-exposure twin pack on 13 October 2026 — about $1.10 a shot. That is the second-most-expensive media on this site after Polaroid film, and the most expensive printer media.
| Format | Print size | Pack | Pack price | Cost per shot | Checked at |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canon SELPHY 4 x 6 (KP-108IN) | 4 x 6 in | 108 | $41.99 | $0.39 | Pro Photo Supply |
| Kodak 4PASS 2.1 x 3.4 | 2.1 x 3.4 in | 60 | $24.99 | $0.42 | Kodak Photo Printer store |
| instax mini | 2.4 x 1.8 in (62 x 46 mm) | 20 | $16.99 | $0.85 | Pro Photo Supply |
| instax WIDE | 3.9 x 2.4 in (99 x 62 mm) | 20 | $21.99 | $1.10 | Pro Photo Supply |
Worth noting for context: a Canon SELPHY 4 x 6 print is a considerably larger photograph for about 39 cents. If print size is the goal and portability is not, the SELPHY is far better value — but it is not instant film and it does not fit in a bag.
Buying it for an event
This is the main use case, so the quantities matter more than the specifications. Budget about one photograph per two guests plus 20% spare. For 100 guests that is roughly 60 prints, which is three 20-exposure twin packs — about $66 of film.
| Guests | Prints to budget | Twin packs | Film cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | 30 | 2 | $43.98 |
| 100 | 60 | 3 | $65.97 |
| 150 | 90 | 5 | $109.95 |
| 200 | 120 | 6 | $131.94 |
The full method, including why 20% spare rather than 10%, is in how much film for a wedding.
What it is good at
- Print size. The reason to own it, and nothing else in the phone-printer category comes close in this aspect ratio.
- 100 prints per charge. Enough for a whole wedding on one charge, which is not true of most printers here.
- Real instax film, with the look and the white border.
- Fully specified. Fujifilm publishes print time, resolution, battery life, charge time, dimensions and weight.
- Pairs well with a WIDE camera. The standard event setup is an instax WIDE 400 for guests plus this printer for the photographs guests took on their own phones — both on the same film.
Where it falls short
- $1.10 a shot. The most expensive printer media on this site. 120 prints is about $132 of film.
- 357 g and 139.9 mm wide. Not a pocket printer. It is a bag printer, which for an event is fine and for everyday carrying is not.
- WIDE film is harder to buy. instax mini is in supermarkets; WIDE usually means a camera shop or an order. For an event, order well in advance.
- Prints fade in sunlight, like all instant film.
- No wired option. Bluetooth only.
- Generation confusion in listings. Because the gen-1 Link Wide was widely reviewed, a lot of listings and roundups blur the two.

Who should buy it
Buy the Link WIDE 2 for an event, specifically. It is the only phone printer that makes a print with room for a group and a handwritten message, which is exactly what a guest book needs, and its battery will get through a whole wedding.
Do not buy it as a general-purpose printer. It is too big to carry casually, its film is the most expensive printer media here, and for everyday use the mini version is cheaper in both senses.
Questions people ask
Is the instax Link WIDE 2 worth it?
For events and guest books, yes — it is the only phone printer making a 3.9 x 2.4 inch print with room for a group and a written message, and about 100 prints per charge gets through a whole wedding. For everyday use, no: 357 g and $1.10 a shot are both high for a general-purpose printer.
What is the difference between the instax Link Wide and Link WIDE 2?
The Link WIDE 2 is the current model, with Bluetooth 5.1 rather than the gen-1's 4.2, a 14-second print time, 357 g, and dimensions of 139.9 x 128.3 x 36.0 mm. Both print the same 3.9 x 2.4 inch instax WIDE film at 318 dpi. Several published roundups still recommend the older model.
How much does instax WIDE film cost?
A 20-exposure twin pack was $21.99 when we checked on 13 October 2026 — about $1.10 a shot. That makes it the most expensive printer media on this site, though still less than half the cost of Polaroid i-Type film.
How much WIDE film do I need for a wedding?
Budget about one photograph per two guests plus 20% spare. For 100 guests that is roughly 60 prints — three 20-exposure twin packs, about $66 of film. Order it well in advance, because WIDE film is not a supermarket purchase.
Can the instax Link WIDE 2 print mini film?
No. It takes instax WIDE film only. The formats are physically different sizes and are not interchangeable, so a WIDE printer and a mini printer are two separate purchases.
