Fujifilm instax mini Link 3 review
The best way to get a genuine instant print out of a phone. It is also the most thoroughly specified printer in the category, which matters more than it sounds.
The instax mini Link 3 prints photographs from a phone onto real instax mini film in about 15 seconds at 318 dpi, over Bluetooth 5.1, with about 100 prints per charge. Film costs about 85 cents a shot — twice a Kodak 4PASS print, but it is genuine instant film.

Fujifilm instax mini Link 3

- **15 seconds** a print over **Bluetooth 5.1**, the newest connection in this category.
- Accepts **JPEG, PNG, HEIF and DNG** — HEIF is what an iPhone shoots by default, so there is no conversion step.

- Film in supermarkets and drugstores, which no cartridge-based printer can match.

What makes it different from every other pocket printer
It does not print a photograph. It exposes one. Inside is an LED array where a camera would have a lens, and it writes the image onto a sheet of real instax mini film line by line, then ejects it through rollers that burst the chemical pod. The print develops in your hand over about ninety seconds, exactly as it would from a camera.
Everything else in this category — ZINK, dye-sublimation — produces a printed photograph that emerges finished. This produces an instant photograph. That is the entire reason to choose it and the reason it costs more per print.

What it costs to run

There is a real offset, though, and it is the one most comparisons miss: film availability. instax mini film is stocked in supermarkets and drugstores. Every other printer's media is an online or specialist order. When somebody runs out at 8pm on a Saturday, 85 cents a print with film ten minutes away beats 42 cents a print with a two-day delivery.
What it is good at
- The print. It is real instax film with the white border and the characteristic rendering. Nothing else here is.
- 100 prints per charge. Best in class by a wide margin — five times the Kodak Mini 2 Retro's 20 — and it means the printer does not die halfway through an event.
- Weight. 210 g and 37.3 mm thick. The most genuinely pocketable printer on this site.
- HEIF support. A small thing that matters: an iPhone shoots HEIF by default, and this printer takes it natively rather than converting.
- Bluetooth 5.1. The newest standard in the category, which in practice means more reliable pairing and transfer.
- Fujifilm publishes everything. Print time, resolution, prints per charge, charge time, power draw, dimensions and weight. Several competitors publish almost none of that, which makes them much harder to recommend.
Where it falls short
- 85 cents a print. Twice the Kodak. Over 240 prints a year that is about $104 more.
- The print is small. 2.4 x 1.8 inches is the smallest format here, and smaller than the 2.1 x 3.4 Kodak print that costs half as much.
- Prints fade in sunlight. Instant film's weakness. Dye-sublimation prints have a laminate; this does not.
- No wired option. Bluetooth only. If pairing fails, there is no cable fallback — which the Kodak printers do offer.
- It only prints. At $116.99 it is close to the price of an instax mini Evo, which prints from a phone *and* is a camera. If both are wanted, the Evo is better value.

Who should buy it
Buy the mini Link 3 if the print being real instax film matters. For a gift, the supermarket film availability and the 100-prints-per-charge battery make it the lowest-hassle printer in the category, even though it is not the cheapest.
Buy a Kodak instead if cost per print is the priority, or the mini Evo instead if a camera is wanted too.
Questions people ask
Does the instax mini Link 3 use real instax film?
Yes. It exposes standard instax mini film at 62 x 46 mm using an LED array rather than a lens, and the print develops over about ninety seconds in the normal way. It is the same film an instax mini 12 uses, at about 85 cents a shot.
How many prints does the instax mini Link 3 do per charge?
About 100 from a full charge, according to Fujifilm, with a charge time of about 1.5 to 2 hours. That is the best in this category — most pocket printers manage about 20 prints per charge.
How fast does the instax mini Link 3 print?
About 15 seconds per print at 318 dpi, after which the film develops over about ninety seconds. It accepts JPEG, PNG, HEIF and DNG files over Bluetooth 5.1.
Is the instax mini Link 3 worth it over a Kodak printer?
Only if you want real instant film. A Kodak 4PASS print is about 42 cents against 85 cents, is larger at 2.1 x 3.4 inches, and is more durable. What the Kodak cannot do is produce an actual instax print, and it has 20 prints per charge against about 100.
Can the instax mini Link 3 connect by cable?
No — it is Bluetooth 5.1 only, so there is no wired fallback if pairing fails. The Kodak Mini 2 Retro and Mini Shot models accept a USB-C connection, which is worth knowing if the recipient is uncomfortable with Bluetooth.
